Show Notes Transcript

At the end of any given year comes a great time to reflect back on both successes and failures as we hope to design a road map for ourselves.

At the end of any given year comes a great time to reflect on successes and failures as we plan to design a road map for the following year.

After a post online that said

  • instead of finishing the year strong
  • why don't we finish the year restful and grateful for making it through yet another crazy cycle on earth?

I decided to grab the microphone and go through some of the things I was grateful for in 2022.

To overcome the fear of failure on an idea of this podcast that was given to me because they thought I could succeed.

To push outside my comfort zone to design, build and implement a podcast to bring value to others.

I am grateful to my wife, family, and friends who have supported my efforts.

As I look to next year, I am the many new potential endeavors and opportunities ahead.

 Jerry Bauer:
Thanks for joining me today. This is the end-of-the-year podcast. And I was debating if I would even have a podcast this week. I had a podcast last week. I would love to be able to do one podcast per week. That was my initial goal. And I was laughing when I started this. I think that I get it two weeks in a row in the very beginning, the first two were in February. We're now at the end of December, and I'm proud to say that this is episode 22. I guess if I was doing one a week, it would be near the late, maybe 46, 47. So I made it halfway there, and that's actually what this podcast is about. It's about gratitude. Do I sit here and just contemplate, “Wow, I failed, and I didn't make one a week? Or do I congratulate myself, and actually others on helping me put out 22 of them?” The whole process was exactly what I wanted to talk about today because it is the end of the year. And I just recently saw an Instagram post from a friend. And I'm gonna quote it here in a second soon as I find it. It is quoted, “Instead of finishing the year strong, why don't we finish the year soft? Why don't we finish the year restful and grateful for making it through yet another crazy cycle on earth?” All I can say is Ameen. It wasn't a religious sermon there. However, it has been a crazy cycle here on Earth. And I'm not going to talk negative. Because when I talk frequently, it's self-talk, talking to myself when no one else is listening. So thoughts that go through my head. I could sit here and say, “You didn't do 48, you only did half that”. Maybe just quit this just quit podcasting. Why are you doing this anyway?” Or, I can talk to myself and go, “Wow. Do you realize what you've learned this year in doing 22 podcasts? Do you realize the reaching down deep and learning new things to excel at, and you should be proud of it?” And I am proud of it. I was given this idea, probably a year and a half ago. And I thought about it worked on the idea of doing podcasting. And then made the decision to do it and went through the complete process. Process probably took me six to eight months to work out the details. A lot of it was cold feet, thought of all the negatives, thought of how I was going to fail. It's going to make a fool of myself, embarrassed my family, cost too much, didn't have the time, thought of every negative thing. There Page 2 of 3 was not a step moving forward. It could took me two months just to decide on the name of the podcast, the artwork, the logo, I want to do it right. I didn't have a professional studio. Just doing this in an office inside my home. I don't have soundproof room but I wanted to give it the best I could, and I'm proud of myself. I've been able to do 22 podcast. As I stated, I was given the idea a year and a half ago and that was from Megan. Megan and I worked together in St. Louis when we both worked at Gateway proclaim. She was in marketing and I was an outside sales. I have been acquainted with Megan ever since leaving, asked her on different projects to help me out. She does website design, does many different things. She's done some work for my son. She's done coaching for my son, coaching for myself. And again, it was her idea. She had approached my company about doing it. They didn't take the advice. She came back to me months later and said, “Well if they're not going to do it, why don't you?” So here I am Episode 22. So today's podcast is by gratitude, thanking different people. Thanking the process of doing this, what I've been able to learn. I want to first thank my wife, she's had to endure this as I've interrupted plans. I knew you gotta go do a podcast, and gotta edit a podcast. I've interrupted different things within the family of were supposed to go someplace and wasn't able to make it. I have interrupted my wife's plans more than once and I apologize, and I want to thank her, my wife and my family, my daughters, as well as my sons. Last week, episode 21 was the first time I spoke about one of my children, one of my stepdaughter. I had sent mentioned that I was looking for a book for Christmas. The episode was on “Buying Books for the Holidays.” She had called me and asked me I wanted a book, please take a listen to the previous podcast, thought it was very insightful. How are you using I'm telling the story is when I went to broadcast in LA, nope, that's proper terminology. When you push a button and you publish your podcast and takes about an hour to get out there as wide as I understand Apple, Spotify, and Buzzsprout. Buzzsprout is where I'm doing this. So of course they have at first and then you get notifications that it's ready to be listened to on all these different players. While I was getting these notifications, I said, “Maybe I should call my stepdaughter and say I mentioned her in the podcast, because you never want to mention somebody and not let them know in advance”. And I didn't use her name. I just told the story. So I called her and said, “Hey, by the way, I used you and a story of mine on my podcast”. And she said, “Yeah, I know it. I just listened to it. It's great”. I don't know if she said the word great but we'll add that anyway. I know both my sons and I believe most authorities have listened and it's all Page 3 of 3 been positive reinforcement. I want to thank the 20 or it might be 19 or 18 guests that I've had on each one from different fields, the chemical cleaning industry. Industry is one of the largest in the world. I think it's seventh or eighth. We're all cleaning, we clean whatever we do. This podcast will just share some of my knowledge. Number one is, “Not to talk about cleaning, but about the process”. How to meet customer, how to meet their needs and such. So beside gratitude, what else should we do at this time of the year? We should rest, be thankful for past what we've been able to achieve and make goals for next year. What are my goals for next year? What else is we talking about a podcast? Will I have planned? Well, number one is, I want to implement some video weapons. I've put some out there on YouTube. I do the podcast on Zoom. So I already have some video on that actually like to get more into the cleaning processes, and show the processes of how people clean different things. How people clean their different piece of equipment, such not sure. But I would like to implement some video. I also plan on hiring a coach just for podcasting. I'm not going to say so much as a coach, but it's person that I've known who I met, who actually I spoke to is a company and he gave out a half hour free advice before I started, went down the line over everything. He still out there. I signed up for him to do an audit of what I'm doing. They'll go through different recordings, come up with different things that I can change them of features and benefits, the sound quality and stuff like that. I'll be open to what he has to say. So what I'm saying is not a podcast, but it's about what we do in life. We’ve to see where we're at, where we would like to go and what tools and instruments will get us there? Be with our family, be it in finances, be it where you work, or even a hobby like this. Is this a hobby? In some ways, it is. Does it help me in business? Most definitely. So as we finish this year and look forward to next year, we should tell everybody “Happy New Year”. Again, stay safe and continue to listen. Hopefully, you would like and share the podcast. Tell all the friends about it. And I hope you have a “Happy New Year”. Take care. Hope to talk to you soon. Bye.
