Holiday Edition- Why Purchase A Book For A Christmas Gift

Jerry: [00:00:00] Welcome to Clean Processes with Jerry. This podcast is dedicated to building an online community of like-minded individuals in businesses in the chemical and cleaning industry. We will share ideas, tips, solutions, and stories to solve problems and expand our markets. Please join me every other week when we introduce a special guest that just might be you. I work for ChemStation of Boston. Where I'm based in New England. I also run the blog. Hospitality Cleaning101. If you ever have questions, feel free to reach out and we will answer on a future podcast. If you like. At the end of the show, I will include my contact information. In today's podcast. We are having the Holiday Edition

See no matter [00:01:00] if you're selling chemicals, selling cleaning products, selling cleaning services. Because the cleaning industry is so large. Many people joining us today are from the different facets of it. But we have all one thing in common and one thing that we all can work on, to make ourselves better. It's not the new chemical that's coming out next year. It's called our mindset.

And instead of looking for what someone might give me as a gift. I've had the Seven Reasons Why You Should Give A Book as a gift this holiday season.

And I might've, misphrased something when I said it doesn't come out with what you particularly want. The shows about what you're supposed to be giving away? But I have a story to tell them, and it's about, how I [00:02:00] had asked for a book, this all this Christmas.

See around the holidays, people are generally bombarded with advertisements and requests for many so-called materialistic things. While there's nothing wrong with receiving or giving material possessions, sometimes giving a gift that will last a little bit longer than one season is an excellent idea.

I don't know about you, but at my house, there's usually a drawer or someplace in the closet, that holds such items that I've never used. That always get tucked away.

If you have that, then you know what I'm saying? As the example. See, want to give something that the recipient can keep and even return it. Or what I should say, give forward. Also, as a gift as a book. [00:03:00] is the perfect example of such a gift.

See the other evening, my stepdaughter called and asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her I'd get back to her the next night. When I did. I asked for a book. You see, I have a couple of newer ones here, I haven't even started yet, and I knew that. However, I was reading on my Kindle a specific title. And I wanted a hard copy. One I could touch and hold and. One that I could put notes on and tear off tabs and put little markers on it. Because it was full of reference material that I wanted to go back there one day. I didn't want to turn my Kindle back on to look for some, a certain expression a certain saying, a certain piece of reference. I wanted a hard bound book.

And thinking about that, I've come up with sevens reasons you possibly should give a book as a holiday [00:04:00] season gift.

Number 1 Books make great conversation starters. Give me a book as a gift is a great way to start a conversation. It can be as simple as, hey, I read this book and thought you might like it. From there, you can chat about what you liked about the book and what other people thought about it, and so on and so on.

Since there are books on every subject and every place known to man. It wouldn't be hard to find a book that you specifically were looking for.

With that said. If you're getting one with a specific title research to ensure it aligns with your thinking. For example. The Catcher In The Rye has nothing to do with baseball.

Number 2 Books help expand your mind. Going back to mindset, one of the best things [00:05:00] about reading is that helps broaden your perspective. By reading about different topics, you can learn new things and gain a new understanding of the world.

Possibly your recipient is taking a trip or starting a new hobby. Reading is the habit of highly successful people. For example, Warren Buffett. He's been known to read up to eight hours a day.

Number 3 Books are the gift that keeps on giving.

Books, never expire like material possessions that wear out or go out of style. They can be read repeatedly. And you're rightly discover something new each time you reread it again.

The writings of Mark Twain or you see central today as they were when I was younger.

Number 4 Books make great gifts [00:06:00] for any occasion.

One could equal a class in college. A couple of books good equal a degree. Now, what is that current cost?

Number 6 Books can change a life. Here are a few life changing books that may do the trick. Please allow me to share. Four of them.

·        Number One. The Bible. This ancient book has helped shape the life of billions that's with a B for centuries. It's a source of wisdom, comfort, and inspiration for many. It can be a powerful too, for personal growth and again, that goes side by side with mindset.

·        Number Two, The book Alcoholics Anonymous. [00:07:00] This book is the cornerstone of the AA program. It has helped millions of people, including myself, overcome addiction. It's a candid firsthand account of what it's like to battle alcoholism and provide invaluable insight and guidance for those struggling, with the disease.

I'm not sure on the top of my head, but I believe. Alcoholics Anonymous is at least a hundred years old. So as the book. So, in a hundred years and after helping millions of people. They've never changed the book because they've never had to. It works.

·        Number Three The book  The Happiness Project

In this New York times, bestseller author, Gretchen Rubin talks about her year long quest to boost or happiness level. [00:08:00] She learns what makes her happy through the series of small, achievable goals.

·        Number Four The fourth book. Wellness Warrior It draws on Lisa Douthit’s battle with cancer. She has an approach to staying healthy, happy, and vibrant, with a focus on nutrition, anxiety, and sleep. Her book is guaranteed to inspire you to live a better life.

All right. To the Seventh and final reason. You should consider giving a book.

An Amazon gift card comes to the rescue. With so many choices the person can choose the book they want. And even read the reviews beforehand.

When they own a Kindle or E reader. They can purchase it immediately. I [00:09:00] know on my Kindle, you can actually get a sample of the book sent you. It will send you a chapter, a couple chapters. You can get into it and decide if you want it or not. You don't want it you can return it.

No better program than that. Do they let you take a sweater home? While some people do return sweaters after they've worn it once or twice, but I haven't. But try the book out. If you don't like it, you can return it.

In summary.

I not necessarily would recommend this as a gift; however, my favorite is to combine a book with an Audible reading. Of it. Because I drive so much, and it's much better than the news on the car radio.

Speaking of gifts for yourself. Check out your local library, because you might be surprised by the free downloads on both books and Audibles.

On the Audible app on your phone. [00:10:00] You can listen to a book, through its entirety. And you can. Tell Audible you weren't happy with it. You can return it. They'll give you another credit to get another book. I believe that program goes in effect, for up to a year later.

I've returned a couple books. I'm sure there's some specific rules on it that you can't just keep doing. I know one of the rules is you can't return a book unless you have a current audible subscription. Where they're sending you out one each month. Because I've put my audible account on a hold for a while, and when I was on hold, meaning they don't ship you a new credit every month.

You can't return books at that time, you can buy new books, but you can't return it. So, there are some fine print there, but again, Get a book. Getting an Audible reading of it at the same [00:11:00] time, I frequently listen to a book as I'm reading it. My comprehension, sores.
